I failed | 21 Day Productivity Challenge Update

So, Where Have You Been?

I apologize for not updating you guys in reference to the 21 day productivity challenge. It was a big fail and I don’t think I was comfortable with admitting that. So I’ve been stuck trying to figure out my next move. I finally decided to hop on and let you guys know what happened. In this post I will reveal my setbacks, talk about my plan for a do-over, and how I will be avoiding my previous mistakes.

What is this 21 Day Productivity Challenge Anyway?

For those of you who are unaware, I started a 21 day productivity challenge based off of Brian Tracey’s book, Eat That Frog. In this book, Brian tells his readers to eat a frog the first thing in the morning, every morning. A frog is something you have a hard time doing. Something that you have been putting off for some time. This is the one thing that would have the greatest impact on your life if you get it out the way. An example would be updating your resume so you can apply for a better job or calling a contractor to upgrade your home it sells at a higher price. You get the idea.

So, What Happened Sis?

I started the 21 day challenge off on the right foot. I was making my lists and eating frogs. But shortly thereafter, maybe like a week in, I started to procrastinate. I would still do my most daunting task, or my frog, but anything else I did after that was only busy work. You know, the unimportant stuff. It wasn’t long before I stopped being productive altogether. After some time, I stopped eating frogs and all the tasks I completed were meaningless and empty.

Now don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t a complete loss. I mean, I went from getting nothing done to at lease moving. I had been struggling with fatigue and complete lack of motivation. So it was nice to see that I was making some kind of progress. But I was running in place as Denzel Washington said in the audio of my video This Silk Press Video Will Change Your Life. I’m glad that the book and challenge got me started but now I need to advance forward.

If At First You Don’t Succeed

So my plan is to try this again. I am attempting another 21 day productivity challenge using the Eat That Frog method. And once again I would like you to join me. This is a great occasion to do a do-over just in time for fall. I should have more success because the summer months are usually so chill. The fall is a busier time with kids starting school and all. The challenge will begin on Friday September 7, 2018 and will go until September 28, 2018.

I have a plan that will help me avoid the mistakes I made last time. I will pick one item as my frog for the whole 21 days. That means my frog will not be changing from day to day. Hopefully this will enable me to experience success.

The Rules

Many of you already know the rules, if not, here is a briefing. Every day either the night before or the morning after, you have to make a list. This list should include the frog and then anything else you need to do for that day. Then get going and Eat That Frog. That’s it. It’s really that easy! For those of you who would like to purchase here’s the book again.

The wonderful thing with take two is that we get to start over. Some people complained the last time I did this because I promoted it only a few days before it started. This time, I’m announcing this 1 1/2 weeks before the challenge begins. So join me if you want to be more productive. I will be adding a part 2 to this post to officially announce the do-over. Let’s go eat some frogs!

21 Day Productivity Challenge

The Dilemma

So, I’m getting sick of being unproductive. If I’m not editing a video or blog post, I am usually wasting time. I browse social media groups, binge watch YouTube videos, and surf the web when I should be doing chores. In the mean time, I miss important deadlines and have a messier than I’d like house. I repeat, I am sick of not being productive.

You see the problem isn’t that I don’t work, I do. But it’s that when I’m not working I don’t work. Ok, I know I confused y’all with that one so let me explain. When I’m not working on my business I like to disconnect. (I know I could have said that in the first place but I like to mess with y’all ha ha). This disconnection is so severe that it effects my home environment and those around me.

Enough is Enough

I finally got to the point where I wanted to do something about my problem. I went to amazon kindle book store and did a search for books on productivity. It recommended Brian Tracey’s Eat that Frog. I was interested as soon as I saw the title. I had heard of this book somewhere, somehow, so I purchased it. Turns out I didn’t have to purchase it because I already owned it.

I clicked on the book. It opened to the chapter that I left off at, which was in the middle of the book. Talk about slacking! Not only did I already own the book, I had already started reading it. And, I don’t remember applying any of it’s suggestions. Yikes!

So, What’s all the buzz?

As I read the chapter, I was immediately inspired and blown away. I began to remember many of its concepts. The book is based off a quote from Mark Twain, “If the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long”. So, in a nutshell, get your most difficult, but important tasks out of the way, first thing every morning. You will have a better day and you will gain momentum and a dopamine hit from the accomplishment. I backtracked and read from the beginning of the book. The pages seemed to fly by.

Take Action

I subscribed to Brian Tracey’s YouTube Channel and decided this time I would take action. As a result, I am doing a 21 day challenge for productivity. I decided to start this Mother’s day. This will be my gift to myself. I know, there are many of you out there who may have the same problem as me so I decided to let you in on it. Join me if you want to become more productive.

The 21 Day Challenge Instructions

The way it works is you have to sit down and make a to do list. On the list you have to put a star next to the item that is the most important but most dreaded task. This is the task that you keep putting off. This is the task that will have a huge impact for your life if done. Examples: Write up a proposal for a raise, donate stuff from your closet, get child support ha ha. You know, the good stuff.

Then starting Sunday morning, you have to get up and make that task the first thing you do for that day. Then you repeat this process for 21 days. You make a to-do list the day before and complete the most daunting task first thing the next morning. And that’s it. Very simple.

If you have questions, comment below. I will respond to them via this post. I may post another article at the midpoint to check in. But, I will definitely post at the end of the 21 days to let everyone know how it went.

So to recap:

Day 1: Sunday May 13th 2018 (Mother’s Day) through Day 21: June 3, 2018

Tasks:

  1. Make a To-Do list the night before
  2. Tackle the most dreaded but important task first thing the next morning.

Alright, let’s get to it!

Your Health is Your Wealth – Here’s Why

your health is your wealth, lady running in the sunset

“Your health is your wealth” is a popular phrase that many people say, but do we know what it truly means? I always thought it meant that if you’re healthy you’re wealthy because health is priceless. But, I am beginning to realize that the phrase may be deeper.

What Happened When A Teenager Didn’t Sleep For Eleven Days!

what happened when a teenager didn't sleep for eleven days, boy asleep at wheel in parked car

A few days ago, Ted-Ed uploaded a video on what would happen if you didn’t sleep. Basically, a high school student stayed awake for eleven days to conduct an experiment. He wanted to see how he would cope without sleep. He began to experience extreme side effects in just the first few days. According to the video, his eyes stopped focusing, he lost his ability to identify objects by touch, and he was moody and uncoordinated. You can only imagine what life was like for him by the end of this experiment.
